Jazz
Since when did I ever like jazz? Ummm. Never. Well, at least not until now. Duke Ellington is a genius. If you have never listened to the mastery of his music, I suggest you take a break and go to your favorite music spot (iTunes, Pandora, Spotify, Rdio, etc) right now.

Perfect Day
Nathan and I had a pretty good day. We slept in a little (something we rarely get to do). I watched Hello Dolly while doing some laundry. Nathan made me lunch. After we ate, Nathan suggested we walk through our backyard, which just happens to a forest with a nice group of trails.  I got to go shopping after we cleaned up. And we wrapped up the day over dinner at a lovely restaurant...

American Idol
My husband once told me that his friend suspected it would be Danny and Adam in the finale.  His friend went as far as to say it would be a battle between good and evil. I guess it could still be described that way, but it’s not Danny and Adam.  It’s Kris and Adam.  This is a tough call folks.  I just don’t know what’ll happen.

The New Year
It’s hard to imagine that in a few hours it will be 2009. I’ve been reflecting on my life this past year. There are so many things I am thankful for; my husband, family, friends, job, etc. I feel as if I’ve succeeded in some areas of my life yet failed in others. I had such grand plans for 2008. We’ll just have to wait and see what 2009 has in store. Happy New Year...

Craftiness
I just finished making this year’s Christmas cards and I think they’re pretty sweet. I don’t know what it is about making your own stuff that is so neat, but I really enjoy it. For those out there wondering what you should get me for Christmas, I’ll fill you in on a little secret. I am somewhat obsessed with Michaels (the arts and crafts store) and Paper Source and I think...

Thanksgiving
We just got back from a fun few days with Nathan’s family. I think Thanksgiving is officially my favorite holiday. We spent the day with Nathan’s grandparents in Tazewell, VA. The Davidsons are awesome company and we always look forward to seeing them during the holidays. Nathan’s grandmother is a wonderful cook. Everything she prepared for Thanksgiving was delicious. I wish...

Classical Achievements
Nathan took me to the symphony this past Thursday. I wore a simple black dress and Nathan wore a black suit with a pinstripe shirt and white tie. He looked so handsome. I waited for him at the Foggy Bottom metro stop and while I waited I finished up a difficult Sudoku puzzle. He approached me which a little yellow rose he picked up from the garden. As we moved briskly through the cool of the...

Grace and Mercy
I looked up a couple definitions today. Here’s what I found: grace - (1) a state of sanctification by God; the state of one who is under such divine influence; (2) the free and unmerited favor or beneficence of God mercy - compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one’s power I have been a jerk this week. My pride/ego got the best of...

The Five Love Languages
We’ve got a good group of people coming to small group now. We’re going over the Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman. I know the book has been out for a while, but for some reason I never got around to reading it. Though I don’t think the book is an end all be all answer to every problem/issue in marriage, it’s a good tool. For those who have read the book - is your...

I’m currently reading this book. I’ll let you all know what I think about it once I’m finished. Wild Goose Chase by Mark Batterson Summary: Most of us have no idea where we’re going most of the time. Perfect.  “Celtic Christians had a name for the Holy Spirit–An Geadh-Glas, or ‘the Wild Goose.’ The name hints at mystery. Much like a wild goose, the Spirit of God cannot be...

New Boss
I recently started working for a new boss and a new client. At first I was a bit apprehensive. I thought it would be hard for me. I’ve since learned to look at it in a different light, a glimpse of eternal perspective. In the month of Kislev in the twentieth year, while I was in the citadel of Susa, Hanani, one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about...

Peace and Joy
S: Romans 5:1-4 1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and...

Facebook
Nathan showed me something really funny. He was looking at facebook stuff on his iPod and someone wrote, “Black Knight was awesome.” I didn’t see a movie called Black Knight but I did see The Dark Knight. I thought The Dark Knight was awesome. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should. Go to your nearest IMAX theater. Go soon.

A seed of faith
S: Matthew 17: 14-20 The Healing of a Boy with a Demon  14 When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16 I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.”  17 “O unbelieving and perverse...

The Interests of Others
S: Matthew 14:13-16 Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand 13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. 15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and...

Bible Study Reading Plan
Today I was convicted to get back to reading my bible every day. My spiritual muscles are weak because I haven’t been working out. I’ve decided to dedicate time every evening at God’s feet (it seems I’ve become a ‘night’ person). I’ve gotten a 1 year bible reading plan from LifeChurch.tv This tumblr post will serve as an archive of the things I learn. At...

My brother is in town
How cool is that? I haven’t seen my younger bro in a long time and now he’s traveling the globe with his new job. It just so happens that he’s landed in our area for the next week for training. It’s so nice to have family so close by! I love you Jimmy and am so glad we can hang out this week! Also, I got tickets for Chicago (the band). I’m going to their concert...

Summer Grilling
I am super excited about grilling this summer. Nathan and I live in a community that has 3 grills next to the tennis and basketball courts. I have decided I want to grill twice a week, every week this summer. Today we bought some grilling tools. I started grilling last week with a small set of tongs. After singeing my hand over the grill, I decided it would be a good idea to get real grilling...

Sewing
I bought a new sewing machine and a couple days ago I made my first project, a small mustard colored decorative pillow.  I’m pretty proud of it.  I also bought some curtain panels and am in the process of hemming the ends. Yesterday I called my mom to wish her a Happy Mother’s Day. Ironically she was sewing curtains too!

Mentorship
Titus 2:1-5 (New International Version) 1You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine. 2Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.  3Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4Then they can train the younger women...

Goodbye Galyens
We’re going to miss you. Nathan and I had dinner yesterday with the Galyen family.  They have a cute home in Seven Corners for sale (if anyone’s interested, please let me know) in preparation for their big move to Spain.  It seems like it would be a perfect fit for them. Deb lived in Belgium while she was growing up and they love being missionaries.  Also, Luke, their eldest, is a big...

Life is Good
This has been a wonderful yet challenging season of Lent.  I’ve been able to touch base with so many friends, my prayer and bible reading life has been rekindled, and I am at peace.  Along the way, I’ve noticed I realize my faults and mistakes much quicker. I am aware of how I can’t really do this on my own.  This is all terribly humbling.Hebrews 12:10 Our fathers disciplined us...
